Pictello

A story can preview a routine. It cannot replace TouchChat when the routine is happening. Do not migrate his voice onto it. Do not install it on the QuickTalker Freestyle.

  • Pictello is visual stories: photo plus speech, page by page. It is not the speech-generating device and not his voice.
  • Allowed: “how lunch works,” PE preview, fire-drill social story, book retell. Preview the routine. Then do the real routine on HIS TouchChat.
  • Not allowed: migrating his vocabulary onto Pictello, using it as the classroom output, or parking the QuickTalker because “the story iPad is easier.”
  • If a story introduces a word he will need in real time, write that word on the request list. Do not program Pictello instead of modeling on WordPower.

How to use a story on this campus

  1. 1

Allowed stories: how lunch works, PE preview, fire-drill social story, book retell, ‘how we walk to music.’ Preview the routine. Then do the real routine on HIS TouchChat.

  2. 2

Create/edit on a different iPad. Wizard mode is step-by-step. Expert mode is faster (fonts, transitions). Do not install Pictello on the QuickTalker Freestyle.

  3. 3

Tap Edit (top right) → story → Edit in Story Actions → Wizard or Expert. Photos, video, and recorded speech are fine. First-person, more descriptive sentences than coaching sentences.

  4. 4

After the story: device in reach, SAY–HIT–WAIT–HONOR on WordPower. The story does not become the output.

  5. 5

If a story introduces a word he will need in real time, write it on the request list. Do not program Pictello instead of modeling on WordPower.

Not allowed

  • Migrating his vocabulary onto Pictello
  • Using it as the classroom output or the ‘easier iPad’
  • Parking the QuickTalker because ‘the story iPad is lighter’
  • Combining it with Proloquo2Go as his school voice — that is a competing SGD, not this IEP

Pictello · Quickstart manual (PDF) · Tutorials · FAQs. AssistiveWare Learn AAC partner practices are on Foundations. Their speech apps are not his voice.
